Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016, when he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice. Kaepernick filed a collusion grievance against the National Football League in October of 2017, alleging an organized effort to keep him off a roster as a result of his protests.
The Redskins lost starter Alex Smith when he broke his leg in November and back-up quarterback Colt McCoy broke his leg against Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. The Redskins said they considered Colin Kaepernick but chose to go in a different direction, subsequently hiring Josh Johnson to back up Sanchez.
"It's just going to be a matter of which way do we want to go?" "He's been talked about and discussed, but we'll probably go a different direction". He said if it had been Week 1 of the season, Kaepernick would have been a better possibility of joining the team.
"Isn't it obvious what's happening?"
Couldn't they have just said something inane like, "We don't want him because of the controversy he brings"?
Gruden says the team will have a workout with QBs later this afternoon. though it's unclear if Kaepernick will be a part of those. Gruden told reporters during a conference call Tuesday that only about 20 percent of the playbook was available to Sanchez, who was operating off a play sheet on his wristband. "Mark, he's a smart guy and I got to see a little bit of that in the meeting room today as well. There's all sorts of things, but I think now the Colin Kaepernick discussion should at least be had".
"Sanchez had experience in a pro-style offense". But when you have a short week like we had. you had to have somebody in here that had some similar conceptual awareness that we had with Colt. "It was a crappy play in a game we were getting our butts kicked", Sanchez said about that turnover after running into one of his linemen during his New York Jets' 49-19 loss to the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving Day six years ago.
