Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine.
As reported by Bloomberg, US President Donald Trump's trade war with China comes along with its own self-inflicted injuries, including a steepening trade deficit with China, which is one of Trump's favourite yardsticks to measure who is "winning" or "losing" in global trade.
However he offered no new details on what China had agreed to with the United States.
"Last year over 77,000 people died from Fentanyl".
The negotiations with China have already started.
"Teams from both sides are in contact and cooperating well, we are fully confident that we can reach an agreement in the coming 90 days", Gao said, without providing more specific details about what actions China will take. The new report showed the deficit grew more than 11 percent through October from the year before and thus pointed to an awkward emerging reality for Trump: If the pattern holds, by the end of this year the US trade deficit will have reached $600 billion for the first time.
Trump's recommendation that China execute its drug pushers is a highly unusual one, more reminiscent of the language used by Filipino strongman Rodrigo Duterte than the leader of the free world. And despite the lack of any evidence that killing drug offenders actually leads to a reduction in drug use or trafficking, he wants more. He said they have a "clear timetable and roadmap".
Trump made no mention of variants of fentanyl in his tweet.
"This won't reduce addiction and overdose deaths in the USA, but it will incentivize the proliferation of even more potent drugs that will further exacerbate the crisis. President Trump's push for China to execute more of its citizens for drug offenses is morally repugnant and ignores the decades-long failure of extremely harsh drug policies here in the U.S".
Trump on Sunday, December 2, said China also would "reduce and remove" tariffs of 40 percent on cars, though Beijing has yet to confirm the move. In fact, the Trump Justice Department just recently went out of its way to promise a crackdown on any cities that try to open safe injection sites as a means of reducing overdose deaths and the spread of blood-borne diseases.
The Trump administration has imposed tariffs on Chinese...
This isn't the first time Trump has advocated for exercising the death penalty against drug traffickers. Smith is now a senior writing fellow at the Independent Media Institute.
