In a new Once Upon a Deadpool teaser, Deadpool and hostage/friend Fred Savage go back and forth bickering about why this new holiday edition of Deadpool 2 is coming to theaters at all. One of the many questions (and there are a lot of them) he asks is why they'd make a PG-13 film. This is obviously just a fun ad, and you can always expect Deadpool's response to be just as cynical and jaded as your average film fan, so we'll just have to sit tight until the acquisition goes through before we jump to conclusions.
Let's be honest: Once Upon a Deadpool is a cash-grab.
Whether this means that future Deadpool movies released under the Marvel Studios branding will similarly skew a little younger and less-bawdy will likely depend on how well Once Upon a Deadpool performs when it hits cinemas December 13.
Fred presses on in the new clip from the movie, pointedly asking Deadpool: "Why do you think audiences will be stupid enough to swallow this?" There have been reports that this is a testing ground to see if this character could be done in a PG-13 capacity, and with him joining the Disney family, it could perhaps be a necessity. This new promo video is but a glimpse of the 20 new minutes of footage shot for the framing story. As Deadpool says: "I'm not sure this level of curiosity is cute from a middle-aged man strapped to a bed against his will".
Fred Savage is famous, pretty much exclusively, for being the sick kid in bed who nags his grandfather with questions in The Princess Bride. Fred Savage will join Reynolds in new scenes for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL in an homage to Savage's starring role in the 1987 bedtime-story classic THE PRINCESS BRIDE.
