"I don't know how hot off the press this is, and I think I'm allowed to say it, but I'm not in the next Kingsman movie", Egerton said in a video interview.
Matthew Vaughn has big plans for his growing Kingsman universe, and it seems the next step won't involve franchise star Taron Egerton as the petty criminal turned sartorial super spy Gary "Eggsy" Unwin. I bring this up because there's apparently a prequel in the works so this could be the reason why Egerton's not in this "next" film. "As The A.V. Club pointed out, notice Egerton says "the next Kingsman" movie", not Kingsman 3.
Egerton added that this may not be the end of the character, noting, "That doesn't mean I won't be in Kingsman ever again".
"His idea for the new one is incredibly exciting", the actor said. This rumored plot includes a teenager named Conrad who wishes to fight in World War I, as well as a character that may be played by Ralph Fiennes. This will likely help explain more about the Kingsman organization itself.
Given that we already are getting casting details for Kingsman: The Great Game, I suppose it makes sense, but it is a bit disappointing we'll have to wait longer before we see that Eggsy and Harry story wrap up. Egerton has exploded onto the scene since the first Kingsman film was released, and he's nabbed a few major roles as of late. The young English actor was promoting his forthcoming Robin Hood revamp, which puts him in the same shoes as Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, Sean Connery, John Cleese, Kevin Costner, Cary Elwes, and Russell Crowe.
The first two installments centered on the induction and mentorship of Eggsy by Secret Service agent Harry Hart (Colin Firth), and as recently as June of this year, Vaughn told Empire that Kingsman 3 would mark "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship". How soon do you think it will be before we see Eggsy again? Let us know your thoughts down below!
