Multiple outlets have called the race.
Today we celebrate Ilhan Omar who has made history becoming first Somali American, and first refugee ever to be elected to Congress. Omar, together with Rashida Tlaib, also become the first Muslim congresswomen.
As of 9:46 p.m. on November 6, media outlets have also declared Andy Levin, Debbie Dingell, and Brenda Lawrence winners in their respective U.S. House races.
The women, both Democrats, include Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib and Somali-American and former refugee Ilhan Omar.
She has become "a source of pride for Palestine and the entire Arab and Muslim world", her uncle Bassam Tlaib told Reuters on Tuesday.
The Palestinian-American won the Democrat primary for the seat in August with around a third of the total vote share.
Omar's family fled Somalia in 1991 due to civil war. She will succeed the first Muslim congressman, Keith Ellison, who vacated the seat to run in Minnesota's attorney general race.
