President Donald Trump prays with American pastor Andrew Brunson in the Oval Office of the White House, Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, in Washington. "We love Turkey, we have dear friends there, we pray for its blessing". "We do not pay ransom in this country..."
Brunson, originally from Black Mountain, North Carolina, had lived in Turkey with his family for more than two decades and led a small congregation in the Izmir Resurrection Church. "The Secretary welcomed the decision to return Pastor Andrew Brunson".
They were "shocked, because we had spent twenty-three years working very openly, talking people about Jesus, helping refugees, things like these". So we hadn't done anything that would harm national security.
Hannity asked Brunson about his detention, "held in a cell designed for eight, and there were 21 people".
Brunson said he wasn't beaten in jail.
Andrew Brunson, the 50-year-old evangelist who was jailed on accusations of espionage, detailed his prison conditions and solitary confinement in an interview Tuesday with "Good Morning America".
"The problem is that I wasn't interrogated".
He said the first year behind bars was particularly tough.
A Turkish court sentenced him to prison Friday, but released him on time served. Perkins tweeted just after noon that he had landed at a military base outside Washington with Brunson and his wife, Norine.
When it was announced that Andrew would be freed, "we got on our knees in the courthouse", Norine explained, "we did not care what everybody thought". "Didn't care what anybody thought", she said.
President Donald Trump says he'll meet with Andrew Brunson, the American pastor just released from Turkey, in the Oval Office on Saturday afternoon.
"Father God I ask that you'd pour out your Holy Spirit on President Trump, that you give him supernatural wisdom to accomplish all the plans you have for this country", Brunson said.
"Norine had actually had a dream about praying for the president before". "Eventually, it took a while until I was allowed to have any books or Bible "I read 2 Timothy a lot where Paul talks about suffering and finishing the race well and this became my prayer: I want to be faithful, endure, and finish well". We asked if we could do it and he said yes", Brunson said. "I hope to do that until the day I die", he said.
Trump called it a "bipartisan" effort to free Brunson.
But Brunson's release doesn't resolve disagreements over USA support for Kurdish fighters in Syria, as well as a plan by Turkey to buy Russian surface-to-air missiles.
"At the beginning I was held in solitary confinement for a number of days, and that was very hard", Brunson told ABC's George Stephanopoulos.
Tillis visited Brunson in Turkey twice, including attending his spring trial, and worked legislation into the defense authorization bill that penalized Turkey by denying sale of military jets. "And how God is bringing blessing out of it". Her encouragement every seven days was what kept Andrew "going for the next week", he said.
