UFC commentator Joe Rogan laid the blame exclusively at Dillon Danis' door and claimed that it was his taunting which provoked Khabib Nurmagomedov to jump out of the Octagon and kick-start the brawl which saw Conor McGregor subsequently punched from behind by a member of Nurmagomedov's crew.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is facing a possible fine and suspension, as well as having his $2 million paycheck withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, for his extracurricular activities at UFC 229 on Saturday, but at least he's maintaining his sense of humor?
"He is going to get suspended so maybe you give him four to six months' suspension", said White.
"I hope [the commission] is lenient on [Nurmagomedov]", he told the Joe Rogan Experience. White said the UFC will allow the NSAC to conduct its hearings before making a decision on Nurmagomedov's next fight.
"We knew some things could happen after this fight, so we had everything in place to make sure that didn't happen", White said.
McGregor was then involved in a scuffle inside the cage after two individuals entered it behind him and both fighters were escorted out of the main arena in Las Vegas. "You should not be able to keep his whole purse".
"I don't think there are too many people who don't understand why he did it, but he shouldn't have done it", White said. Stand up, get that belt wrapped around you. "The guy that's yelling at you means nothing".
Now Nurmagomedov's father has released his first statement on the incident where he admonished his son's actions while promising to punish him far worse than anything the UFC could have in store for him. McGregor says he wants a rematch but the NAC must rule first on just when the undefeated champion can return to the Octagon.
Brian tells us he was hanging at the club following Conor vs. Khabib when he saw Danis in a hoodie trying to stay low-key.
