Radnor will guest star in the October 11 episode as a mystery man on a blind date with Meredith.
Grey's showrunner Krista Vernoff told Deadline in an interview last month that the question remains open as to whether Meredith will find her first love post-Derek this season, "but boy, is she putting herself out there in a new way". "And so, we're leaning into that a little bit", Vernoff said.
Details about Radnor's character are being kept under wraps, but it seems Meredith finally agrees to let her matchmaker patient awaiting a kidney transplant help restore her romantic mojo, so the two will go on a blind date in Thursday's episode. In a sneak peek of this Thursday's episode, Meredith's co-workers notice how she's not wearing her white coat and instantly guess where she's about to go.
Her sister-in-law Dr. Amelia Shepard, played by Caterina Scorsone, 36, asked: 'What happened? Are you going to a funeral?'
Radnor is best known for his role of Ted Mosby on HIMYM from 2005 to 2014, most recently starred in NBC's Rise this year before it was canceled after one season.
'What's wrong with you?' Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers, 48) added: 'You look weird'.
Meredith then revealed that she had never met her lunch date ... and didn't even know what he looked like. He's also appeared in the Civil War drama Mercy Street.
