An unnamed student told the Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid she saw Chegerest die.
A local official said most of the blast victims were students of the technical college, which is a vocational school for teenagers.
In other media, the blame for the Kerch attack was more directly focused.
Of those injured in the attack, a number remained in a "very serious condition", according to Russian health minister Veronika Skvortsova.
An employee at a hospital in Kerch was quoted as saying that 18 people had already been admitted with injuries from the explosion, and that doctors were expecting around 50 more wounded people to be brought in.
An 18 year-old student, Vladislav Rosylakov, has been identified by police as the attacker.
Officials said an explosive device had gone off in the school's cafeteria during the attack and that a second device had been found among Roslyakov's belongings and defused.
Crimea's regional leader Sergei Aksyonov initially said the perpetrator was a 22-year-old student in the school who lives in Kerch and shot himself afterwards.

There have also been several reports in the Russian media that the mother of the Kerch gunman may have been a Jehova's Witness, a group that Russia declared past year to be extremist. Russian officials wouldn't confirm those reports. "And tragedies like this one happen", the Russian president said. Yet in comparison to the US, Russia has strict gun controls, and unlike the Columbine shooters, the Kerch shooter reportedly legally bought the gun he used.

"We all lost people close to us, the children of Kerch. We need to know the truth now", resident Sergei Ivanov told AFP. Friends said the fourth-year pupil "hated his studies and vowed revenge on his teachers".
According to the RIA Novosti agency, security forces raided Roslyakov's family home following the killings. Pictures from the scene published in Russian media showed a bag found at the school filled with what appear to be improvised explosives.
At a news conference in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin said investigators were working to determine a motive for the attack.
Attacks by disaffected teenagers at their schools and colleges have hit the headlines recently in Russian Federation. In Aksenov's words, the killer shot himself dead. In April, another student stabbed a teacher and a fellow student in the Urals Mountains and then set fire to a classroom.
