Prince Harry and Meghan, on their first worldwide tour since marrying in May, also visited the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Dubbo.
The rest of the world fell in love with them when they met five-year-old Luke Vincent who, after a gentle request from Meghan for a hug, embraced both royals.
During his speech, it began to rain and the Duchess of Sussex smiled as she stepped in to help her husband, before he joked "it's all right, I've got my wife".
"You are the salt of the earth. You have just lived through two years of drought". He spoke of high suicide rates and the need for a strong community to help others who are doing it tough.
They had earlier visited a farm hit by the drought and Harry recalled his own stay on an Australian farm 15 years ago, where he said he was chased by countless cattle and perfected the Aussie salute of swatting flies.
In the town, shops and pubs were decorated with banners, bunting and royal portraits. Luckily, they've just received their first baby gift.
Peter West, 62, from the city, said: "We gave him a can of special brew".
"It´s like a marriage in a beer can", bar licensee Ryan Mackintosh told local media.
Mothers do not often reveal they are expecting until they are three months pregnant, however the Duchess of Cambridge broke the news earlier than expected with her pregnancies because extreme morning sickness caused her to miss royal events. Dunne and the prince first met during his 2015 trip to Sydney, The Associated Press reports.
The royal couple's visit to Australia coincides with the Invictus Games in Sydney from October 20-27.
On Monday the pair will go to Queensland´s Fraser Island, the world´s largest sand island, before jetting off to Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.
