CLEVELAND The Houston Astros advanced to the AL Championship Series for the second straight year, completing a division-round sweep of Cleveland today with an 11-3 win in Game 3 helped by two key throwing errors from Indians reliever Trevor Bauer.
Indians manager Terry Francona will tweak his lineup against the left-handed Keuchel, adding righty hitters Yandy Diaz and Brandon Guyer.
Mike Clevinger gave Francona a terrific outing - five strong innings before Bauer entered. He irritated his troublesome right knee when he slipped leaving the batter's box in Game 2 Saturday.
Springer, who struck out on three pitches in his first two at-bats against Clevinger, got him the third time and drove the first pitch into the left-field bleachers to tie it 1-all.
The Astros will now wait for the Boston-New York victor for a shot to play for another championship. The Astros offense can score runs in bunches and had just tied the game in the previous half-inning on a George Springer homer. After hitting just three home runs in the final 1½ months of the regular season, Springer went deep three times against Cleveland.
Houston won't know its ALCS opponent until the Yankees and Red Sox complete their series, which is tied 1-1 ahead of Monday night's critical Game 3 in the Bronx. They finally strung a couple together to push across a run in the third.
"As long as you're still breathing, you're still breathing", he said.
But three Houston runs in the seventh and six more in the eighth put an end to that and cleared the stands rather quickly.
Never mind two of them. Martin contracted a virus shortly after he was acquired in July from Detroit. He urged them to take it one game at a time.
