The Senate Judiciary Committee had delayed a vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation after Ford's allegations emerged last week. Earlier on Thursday, Kavanaugh said he wanted to testify even if Ford did not show.
"The most consequential decision I've made in my entire career is the decision not do something, and that was to not fill the vacancy after the death of Justice Scalia", McConnell said, referring the decision to hold up President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. "I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place", Trump tweeted.
He also claimed Judge Kavanaugh was "under assault by radical left wing politicians who don't want to know the answers".
Grassley has instead scheduled a hearing for next Monday for both Ford and Kavanaugh to testify about the incident.
"Chairman Grassley's staff had a call with Dr. Ford's attorneys today to discuss receiving her testimony in the Judiciary Committee, and will consult with his colleagues on the committee".
As the week has proceeded, Republicans have seemed to regain momentum toward approving Kavanaugh though his prospects have remained uncertain. The Judiciary Committee reportedly also has volunteered to send investigators to Palo Alto, Calif., where Ford lives, to talk with her there outside the view of TV cameras. Republicans are unlikely to agree to calling witnesses aside from Ford and Kavanaugh.
Attorneys for Ford did a round of interviews after she went public and pledged that she was prepared to testify before the committee.
In the call later Thursday, Katz asked the committee to subpoena Mark Judge, whom Ford has named as the other teen in the room at the time.
According to reports on Thursday, the Republicans are considering hiring a female outside litigator to handle the questioning, which would be televised nationally.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, said at the event: "Someone who is lying does not ask the FBI to investigate their claims".
Katz reiterated that Ford would like the FBI to investigate before her testimony.
"I continue to want a hearing as soon as possible, so that I can clear my name", Kavanaugh said in the letter to the Iowa Republican.
Earlier on Thursday, committee Republicans chose to hire an outside counsel to lead their questioning of Ford, rather than the committee members themselves, according to a Republican Senate official familiar with the decision.
On Thursday, a group of eight Democrats wrote to Trump, asking him to direct the Federal Bureau of Investigation to reopen its background check on Kavanaugh, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Supporters of Kavanaugh have also rallied behind him, while people backing Ford protested in Congress on Thursday.
Twelve of Prof Ford's family members have written an open letter, posted on Twitter, in which they call her "highly ethical", adding that "her honesty is above reproach".
