Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said it was time for Trillanes to stop grandstanding.
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was arrested on charges of rebellion, following an earlier move by the president to revoke an amnesty granted to the senator for his involvement in a number of coup attempts that happened over a decade ago.
Judge Bartolome Soriano of Branch 148 handled the coup d' etat case against Trillanes and dismissed it in 2011 "pursuant to the amnesty" granted by then President Benigno Aquino III. "The OSG welcomes the Order of RTC-Makati, Branch 150 upholding the validity of Proclamation No. 572 and the subsequent issuance of a warrant of arrest and HDO against Mr. Trillanes".
Albayalde also said that Trillanes could post the bail set by the court "anytime".
Under Duterte, another opposition senator has been jailed on illegal drug charges, a critical Supreme Court chief justice has been ousted by fellow judges, and foreign critics, including an Australian nun, have been barred from entering the Philippines or threatened with deportation. "This is pure harassment by Mr. Duterte against his political critics and to those who are voicing out the truth".
Duterte's critics have accused him of trying to distract the public and prioritizing a settling of scores rather than tackling problems like inflation, which his office rejects.
Malacañang has repeatedly denied going after those who oppose Duterte and his policies, even with the detention of Senator Leila de Lima, another strong critic of the administration.
Trillanes previous year appealed to the International Criminal Court to investigate killings in Duterte's war on drugs and had repeatedly accused the president of being a mass murderer and holding secret bank accounts.
Philippine opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV talks to the media outside his office in the Philippine Senate following a regional trial court order for his arrest Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 in suburban Pasay city, south of Manila, Philippines.
But the President himself said it was Calida who discovered flaws in the grant of Trillanes' amnesty. Trillanes has strongly denied the president's claims and has provided news reports and defense department documents to counter Duterte's claims. He refused to comment on whether he thinks Soriano would also issue an arrest warrant against Trillanes.
Aside from the rebellion and coup-related charges in the two courts, Duterte has also ordered the military to resume an inquiry into the senator's role in the mutinies.
