Forecasters said catastrophic freshwater flooding is expected well inland over the next few days as Florence crawls westward across the Carolinas all weekend.
"I saw two 20-foot sections getting busted up because the winds are so strong and powerful", she added. "I was born and raised here and been through every storm the last 30 years, but this one seems to be doing more damage than we expected".

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster is giving another update on his state's response to Hurricane Florence. The sheriff said all three victims were in cars that were swept away. "We have a curfew in effect from 7 p.m.to 7 a.m. and if you do not have to get out...stay at home or evacuate to higher ground if you're in a flood prone area".
Power outages have hit the Charlotte area as Tropical Storm Florence makes its way across the Carolinas.
There were no immediate reports of storm-related deaths or serious injuries. The couple died in a house fire in Cumberland County, N.C. on Friday.
Florence was seen as a major test for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which was heavily criticized as slow and unprepared previous year for Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, where the storm was blamed for almost 3,000 deaths in the desperate aftermath.
The eye of Florence directly struck Wrightsville Beach, NC, early Friday. Local media said the woman had suffered a heart attack. "The storm is going to continue its violent grind across our state for days". Details surrounding the death are unclear, but officials said it appears there is no reason for others at the shelter to worry.
Hurricane Florence pummeled North Carolina, making landfall Friday morning with storm surges and wind gusts before contributing to at least four deaths. But with a storm surge putting pressure on water to head back inland and heavy rains swelling those rivers, widespread flooding is the result.
Before weakening, the storm was a Category 2 storm with winds of 100 miles per hour with higher gusts.
At 11:00 am (1500 GMT), the storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour (130 kilometers per hour) and moving west-southwest at three mph (six kph).
As of 8 a.m. on Saturday the system was located about 35 miles west of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and was about 45 miles south-southeast of Florence, S.C.
