Republican sources on Capitol Hill say it's uncertain if the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing scheduled for Monday to address the sexual assault accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will actually occur.
Kavanaugh's nomination has been threatened by a woman's allegation that he sexually assaulted her when they were high schoolers.
Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasely Ford, have both been asked to testify Monday, but it is not clear if Ford will appear. "I can tell you the Republican senators want to be a hundred percent happy themselves".
The president explained that he wants to see a complete process for Kavanaugh.
Sen. Collins: "That's very puzzling to me..."
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that there is no need for Federal Bureau of Investigation involvement in the scandal threatening to derail his pick for a coveted place on the US Supreme Court.
"There is no way for the American people to be assured through any Senate Judiciary process that [Kavanaugh] can be trusted in his denials of this extraordinarily credible claim by a woman who had nothing to gain, and everything to lose by bravely coming forward and telling her story", Hogue told reporters, "It is NARAL's position and the position of our members that Brett Kavanaugh should withdraw his nomination immediately". "There was a witness there - and that was this fellow (Mark) Judge".
"I am willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the Committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity", he added in his statement released by the White House.
Mr Grassley had earlier stopped short of calling for a public hearing, or for delaying the committee's vote on Mr Kavanaugh which was originally planned for Thursday of this week. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). Judge said that the only reason he is involved in this matter is that "Dr. Christine Blasey Ford remembers me as the other person in the room during the alleged assault". "Brett Kavanaugh and I were friends in high school but I do not recall the party described in Dr. Ford's letter", Judge said.
"We do, in 2018, get it", said Hill, now a professor at Brandeis University.
They say in a letter Tuesday that Ford wants to cooperate with the panel. He also seemed to imply that both would be there, even though he'd only spoken to Kavanaugh and had yet to make contact with Ford.
