"We'd also like to thank our brilliant presenters - Emma (Willis) on Big Brother and Rylan (Clark-Neal) from Bit On The Side - for their consummate professionalism, Marcus (Bentley), the voice of Big Brother and all of the housemates who have created so many memorable moments".
'Most importantly, we'd like to thank fans of the show for their support over the last seven years.
Rylan, who has hosted Big Brother's Bit On The Side for six years, tweeted: 'After 6 years working on one of the most iconic shows on television, I'm saddened to hear the news Big Brother won't be returning.
Ratings fell towards the end of its Channel 4 run and in 2011 Channel 5, then owned by Richard Desmond, signed a contract with Endemol to acquire the programme. "We look forward to giving the final series a brilliant sendoff".
This season starts just a week after the conclusion of Celebrity Big Brother, which was won by Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, who beat off the likes of Cheers star Kirstie Alley and footballer Jermaine Pennant and othrs. It has been the biggest privilege being a housemate, a victor and a host on my favourite show on the television.
'To work with Emma, Marcus and the incredible team on BOTS every day and have made friends for life I'm truly the luckiest guy in the industry. I learned how host a show on the job here and I'll forever be grateful for the opportunity. "R x", he concluded.
The upcoming series of 'Big Brother' will be the last to air on Channel 5, it has been confirmed.
The final of the most recent series, broadcast by Channel 5 a year ago, was watched by just 1.11 million.
This saw victor of the last C4 civilian series, Josie Gibson, leave the house as the champion, only to be sent back in again to compete against former housemates from across the show's history.
This included CBB stars such as Ulrika Jonsson, Vanessa Feltz and Coolio, as well as civilian housemates such as Makosi Musambasi, Nikki Grahame and Brian Dowling.
The show first appeared on screens in 2000 and was extremely popular, but viewing figures have dwindled in recent years.
Emma Willis took over as host in 2013 on series 14 of the show.
The final series will begin on Friday night, although there remains the possibility that the production company Endemol Shine could convince another British channel to buy the rights.
"We are incredibly proud of Big Brother which has consistently been the highest rated show for Channel 5 over the past seven years", it said.
