The first game could be played this season, after La Liga signed a 15-year partnership with Relevant Sports. More shall fall. It's only a matter of time before top-level football is just one big homogeneous, conglomerate global super league, full of faceless super clubs, playing meaningless (but lucrative) International Champions Cup matches in Dallas and Singapore for the rest of time.
La Liga did not give any details on when the first game across the Atlantic was set to take place and did not immediately respond to a request for information from Reuters.
He said: "We're devoted to growing the passion for football around the world".
However, reports in the U.S. said it could happen as early as this season, with Miami mentioned as a possible venue. Tebas previous year also talked about the league possibly playing a regular-season match in China, and a few days ago the Spanish Super Cup was held in Tangier, Morocco, the first time it was played outside Spain.
A decade ago, the Premier League tried to introduce an additional worldwide match but plans for each team to play a 39th game overseas were abandoned amid opposition from Federation Internationale de Football Association and fan groups.
Called LaLiga North America, the newly-founded organization will work to develop football culture in the US and Canada using the unequalled assets of LaLiga, widely considered the world's best football league featuring internationally recognized clubs and players.
"This unique relationship will create new opportunities for millions of North American soccer fans to experience the most passionate, exciting, and highest level of soccer in the world".
The agreement also encompasses rights to all La Liga business and development activities, including marketing, youth academies, and other areas to expand La Liga's footprint in the U.S.
While Premier League, La Liga and Serie A clubs regularly play pre-season games in North America, competitive games have been a no-go for leagues.
