Omarosa Manigault Newman, the ex-Apprentice contestant who served as the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison a year ago, revealed on Meet the Press Sunday that she had recorded White House Chief of Staff John Kelly firing her.
Manigualt-Newman told NBC's Chuck Todd she recorded conversations to protect herself in a White House known for throwing people under the bus.
Manigault Newman appeared on the show to promote her new book, "Unhinged", which will be released Tuesday.
Elsewhere in the interview, Manigault Newman said she was "complicit with this White House deceiving this nation", and that she was "totally complicit" in aiding the President blame both white nationalists and anti-racist protesters for the violence in Charlottesville previous year.
She says that during his time at The Apprentice Trump used the N-word "multiple times" and, according to three sources she knows, there is a tape to prove it.
Along with her "race war" comments Omarosa said, laughing, that "oh yeah, there's some people gettin' it on in the white house". On the tape, Kelly said that if they made this a "friendly departure" and if the story was played as a year of service to the nation by Manigault, she could "go on without any type of difficulty in the future relative to your reputation".
Now, though, she says she's since heard the tape. "But when he talks that way, the way he did on this tape, it confirmed that he is truly a racist". Early excerpts have been denounced by White House officials, who are launching a concerted effort to discredit their former colleague.
Trump called Manigault Newman "wonderful", "a very nice person" and a "very, very fine person" when she joined him on the campaign trail in 2016. That's downright criminal. And if I didn't have these recordings, no one in America would believe me. "I was complicit, and for that I regret". Sarah Huckabee stands in front of the country and lies every single day.
"I had a blind spot where it came to Donald Trump", she said.
"And how She pays it back is she brings a personal recording device into the situation room in the White House", he said.
