It's still not clear why a Houston father cut the throats of his two children over the weekend, killing them both.
KTRK reported that after killing the youngsters, Ndossoka called their mother to tell her he had left her "a present" at their apartment.
At first, Ndossoka told police he didn't remember what happened, but he later said he used a knife on the children, who begged for their lives.
Ndossoka was found alive a day later in his auto parked in Pasedena. According to Ntongo, Ndossoka told her that he killed the children and had left her a "present".
Ndossoka called Ntongo multiple times Saturday after the slaying.
The father - who was charged with two counts of capital murder - had said in the note that he planned to die with his children.
If convicted he could face the death penalty. He also told her she needed to come to his place and said there was a key under the mat, according to court documents.
The woman rushed over to Ndossoka's apartment and let herself in.
Ntongo went to the apartment and called 911 when she found the children dead, the records show.
Police found a bloody knife at the apartment and a handwritten note in French placed on the bed near the boy's body.
But, in fact, he had already fled. Police put out a vehicle description and mounted a search.
On Sunday, Ndossoka was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Pasadena, southeast of Houston. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Ndossoka appeared to sign the note that indicated he meant to die with his children. Ndossoka then said he "did something bad" and reported having high blood pressure.
"The defendant then admitted that he had done something to his children and when asked 'What?' he motioned towards his neck", according to the court documents.
According to court records, "Daddy I'm sorry" as his sister just kept crying.
