An Instagram model has been bitten by a shark during an impromptu photo shoot. "I am so fortunate that I still have my arm and my life".
The shark grabbed her and took her under the water.
"It's been interesting", she said.
Katarina Zarutskie was holidaying in the Bahamas, with her boyfriend and his family last month when she chose to go swimming with nurse sharks in the marina, NBC reports.
Seconds later, Zarutskie discovered why swimming with sharks on objective can be a risky idea.
The incident took place at Staniel Cay and was captured in pictures by Katarina's boyfriend's dad.
"Against my boyfriend's wishes and his parents wishes". The man who owns the marina said nurse sharks are normally docile but said those sharks could have been feeding, so Zarutskie's exposed fingers and limbs might have been tempting.
Brunning tried to continue her vacation after receiving treatment, but a serious infection required her to return to Perth for surgery.
Zarutskie told NBC that she was pulled under briefly when the reportedly five-foot shark made a decision to take a chomp on her arm then she "ripped [her] wrist out of the shark's mouth as fast as I could".
"I don't regret it, and I would do it again to bring awareness", she said. "[The doctors] now believe that I still have pieces of the shark teeth in my arm and I will forever have a scar", she said, slightly concerned for her modeling career.
When asked whether she went into the water because the the post would generate a lot of hits on Instagram and increase the number of followers, Zarutskie replied "no".
As soon as Zarutskie freed herself from the 5-foot shark, she raised her bleeding arm and walked over the other sharks and out of the water. She's been taking various antibiotics to prevent infection from bacteria, and admitted that she's anxious about how this injury will affect her modeling career.
Looking back on the day's events, Zarutskie is grateful her injury was not more severe. We're so glad she's okay.
