The website for the e-commerce giant crashed shortly after 3 p.m.in NY on Monday - just moments after millions of shoppers deluged to take advantage of Amazon's annual Prime Day. It had more sign-ups during 2017's event than any other day in the company's history, Amazon said at the time, without providing specific numbers.
Amazon's Prime Day officially starts at 3PM EST today, but as always, the real deals are deeply discounted Amazon products, and this year that includes smarthome devices like Ring, cloud camera, and security systems.

This is the first year that the grocery chain, which was acquired by Amazon late last year, will celebrate Prime Day.
Amazon Prime Day is back once again for 2018, taking place today (Monday July 16) until midnight on Tuesday July 17. Any product that enjoys a Prime Day discount will return to its normal price beyond this time.
Shoppers will spend a collective $3.4 billion just on Amazon during the Prime Day promotion, up 42 percent from a year ago, according to Coresight Research.
NEW PRODUCT LAUNCHES: Several companies have agreed to launch new products on Prime Day, Amazon says.
The fourth Prime Day (and a half) will begin noon PT Monday, extending for 36 hours. "The bonus from the competition can be that there's no membership fee required, and you may get more bang for your buck if you get local stores to throw in a freebie like free installation", Woroch said. Prime members will get 10% instant discount with HDFC Bank Debit & Credit Cards.
Additionally, Prime members who live near a Whole Foods may want to take advantage of a new offer this year, Dengler said.
Select TV brands are also eligible for a 100 per cent cashback for Prime users buying the Fire TV Stick as well, when both purchases are made from Amazon Pay balance.
Prime is the "most critical driver" for Amazon's e-commerce business in the long run, argued Cowen analyst John Blackledge. In the meantime, Amazon is giving shoppers a heads up on some upcoming bargains.
