The film will also feature the return of stars Woody Harrelson (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me), Emma Stone (La La Land) and Abigail Breslin (Scream Queens), which may raise the budget to above $24 million this time, especially given Stone's Oscar win La La Land, Harrelson's nomination for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Eisenberg's nomination for The Social Network. Venom director Ruben Fleischer, who also directed the first installment, is back on board to helm the sequel that fans have been waiting almost a decade for. Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese will also return to write the script with Zombieland producer Gavin Polone on board.
Stay tuned for details about Zombieland 2. After all, the original is still one of the most enjoyable films of the last few decades and we simply can not wait to catch back up with Tallahassee and the gang. Wernick recently said that he was "sitting on information" and that he could not "share at this moment", which sent fans into a frenzy. Zombieland 2 is set to roll cameras in January for a planned October release next year, which will find the film heading into theaters just in time to mark the first's 10th anniversary.
"This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time - and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail", said Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch. Additionally, Panitch says that he's excited to have Ruben Fleischer back on board to helm the highly anticipated sequel. "We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly fantastic".
The exciting news was confirmed on Friday (July 13) by The Hollywood Reporter. "But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family".
When it was first announced that Ben Affleck had been cast as Bruce Wayne / Batman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, most fans were less-than-thrilled with the decision, with many pointing to the actor's previous role in the critically lambasted Daredevil film as a prime example of why he was a bad choice to don the cape and cowl.
