Two people accused of killing and dismembering a woman one of them met on a Tinder date appeared in a Nebraska court Tuesday on first-degree murder charges.
She was at his apartment, he claimed, to partake in a sexual fantasy he had about being with two women.
Both have been charged with first degree murder and prosecutors are considering seeking the death penalty should they be found guilty.
Police said an "analysis of digital evidence" led them to her corpse, according to the New York Post. The charges alleging unlawful abandoning of human remains carry a possible sentence of up to two years in prison, and nine to twelve months post-release supervision.
Loofe, who is from Lincoln, went missing following a November 15 date with Boswell, whom she met through the dating app Tinder, according to police. She and Bailey Boswell, 24, went on a date the night of November 15. She didn't come home either, so her mother reported her missing to the Lincoln Police Department.
Both Trail and Boswell had been considered persons of interests following Loofe's November disappearance.
In newly unsealed documents, prosecutors allege that Trail and Boswell were captured by surveillance footage at a Home Depot on November 15, buying the tools that they would use to cut up Loofe's body.
They have been held in the Saline County jail since then, though the charges in Loofe's death weren't announced until Monday.
Sydney's pal Terra Gehring told local radio that she was looking forward to a second date after a successful match on Tinder.
"She texted me and told me about the date she had (and) how great it went and she was excited to go on another date with her again Wednesday night", Gehring told the station.
The released court documents say Trail told an Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent that he strangled Loofe with an extension cord, KETV reported. Boswell will be represented by the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy.
Trail gave an interview with a newspaper back in January, and even said "I should be put to death".
"It wasn't supposed to go to the extreme it went, of course not", he told the World-Herald at the time. "It wasn't meant that she was to die", he told police.
