The 24-year-old American Idol Season 10 victor married his high school sweetheart and girlfriend of six years, Garner native Gabi Dugal on Saturday in front of 200 friends and family in the North Carolina mountains, according to multiple reports.
The couple got engaged in September 2017, with McCreery, 24, revealing in a post on his website that he'd proposed to his longtime girlfriend while on a hike near Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. Both McCreery and his bride hail from North Carolina, where they first met in kindergarten. McCreery reportedly made such an impression on the young Dugal at the time that she wrote "Mrs. Gabi McCreery" encircled with hearts in her diary.
The 5ft10in crooner added, 'I support her dreams and she supports mine'. "I knew she was the one a while ago". Weeks before, McCreery plotted the moment in a songwriting session for his current album, Seasons Change.
McCreery wrote a song, "This Is It", about the proposal, telling Taste of Country in March that he surprised her with the tune after he popped the question and they got back to a cabin where his family and hers were waiting to celebrate. "We couldn't wrap our heads around anything.' I had to keep that one a secret for a while". They're headed off to to Tahiti for a honeymoon, and will move in together to a home, for the first time, upon their return.
"We'll start with dogs", he says with a laugh.
The newlyweds were joined by more than 200 of their closest friends and family and the ceremony was officiated by McCreery's childhood pastor, Entertainment Tonight reports. "She wants a Lab and I want a little English Bulldog".
