Winfrey also poured cold water on the suggestion that she was buttering Ragland up for an interview and that, in fact, no sit down was scheduled.
It's not unusual for the network to submit major cast members for consideration, according to ET Canada, and the Supporting Actress category is definitely a competitive one (think This Is Us star Chrissy Metz, last year's victor Anne Dowd of The Handmaid's Tale, Stranger Things standout Millie Bobbie Brown and Maisie Williams for Game of Thrones.) The royal's close friend Sarah Rafferty is also being considered for the category.
For those who think the meeting was a stunt for Winfrey to get first dibs on a Ragland tell-all interview, Winfrey says it's not true.
Meghan Markle, right, and her mother Doria Ragland leave Cliveden House Hotel in Taplow, May 19, 2018 where she stayed before Markle's wedding ceremony with Prince Harry at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. 'You know what the gifts were? She's great at yoga, so I said: "'Bring your yoga mat and your sneaks in case we just want to do yoga on the lawn.' So, one of the bags was a yoga mat and the other was lunch".
And as for the so-called gifts?
The Wrinkle in Time star didn't offer up any details about their potential yoga session, but she did note that she also gave Ragland a basket of kumquats from her tree after Markle's mother expressed her love of the fruit.
"For all of the people who said I am getting her gifts and I'm trying to bribe her for an interview - they were kumquats", Winfrey says. If kumquats can get you an interview, I'm all for it!'
So there you have it!
