The World Cup hosted by Russian Federation could boost the number of young women falling pregnant, the top politician warned, adding: 'I hope they get something clear in their heads regarding foreigners. "It's good if they're one race, but if they're of a different race, then it's worse". Pletnyova's fear stems from a group of single mothers raising children conceived during the 1980 Olympic Games held in Moscow during the era of the Soviet Union.
"We must give birth to our children".
Children who are mixed-race are likely to be brought up in one-parent families, she warned.
"There probably will be girls who will meet (foreign fans) and have children", Pletnyova told the radio station. "I'm not a nationalist, but all the same". They are being dumped and this is it.
She said that children risked being "abandoned and just left with their mother;" or, alternatively, being taken overseas by their fathers, urging women to marry "Russian citizens".
'Then they come to see me at parliament and cry that their children were taken away, snatched from them.
Perhaps she was anxious that the women would face a future of single parenthood, but then the lawmaker said that it would be fine if they slept with foreigners who were the same race.
In comments to Govorit Moskva radio station, Alexander Sherin also said Russians should be careful in their interactions with foreigners as they might try to circulate banned substances at the tournament.
'I would have liked people in our country marry for love, regardless of nationality'.
"I would like to see marriages in our country for love, regardless of the nationality, between those who are citizens of Russian Federation, who will build a good family, live with togetherness, have children and raise them", she said.
Unsurprisingly this lawmaker has made similarly prudish comments before, once criticizing the crop top of a local journalist.
Pletnyova previously criticised the #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment, tentatively spreading in Russian Federation. A Russian lawmaker has told local women to keep away from foreigners during the World Cup and instead marry Russian men.
