The statement to the Irish Times said: "Following the horrific gun attack that took place in Bray Boxing Club early last Tuesday morning in which one man Bobby Messett was tragically killed and two others Ian Britton and my father Pete Taylor were seriously injured, there has been considerable public interest in all aspects of the event. He has left a huge void in our lives that will never be filled again".
Prayers were also said for boxing trainer Peter Taylor and Ian Britton; both of whom survived the gun attack, but were seriously injured.
"He was a family man most importantly, and loved by everyone around him. Although we are all devastated that he was taken so cruelly and way too soon, it gives us some comfort to know that he is reunited with his ma and da".
Ex-Ireland soccer star Damien Duff was one of the mourners at the funeral.
"Sport played a huge role in his life, and it's where he made his closest friends", said Gary.
Members of the Bray Wheelers Cycling club and Glencormac United formed a guard of honour as Bobby's remains were brought to the church in Kilmacanogue.
There was also a photo of Mr Messett's three grandchildren, as well as a bottle of rum to "send him on his way".
'We gather here at this church in a shocking state.
"Bobby was kind, warm, friendly, gentle, hard-working and well respected".
Father-of-three Bobby Messett, 50, died while Pete Taylor, 57, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries in the shooting at the gym he owns near Dublin. I understand there is still a lot of uncertainty about the nature of the incident but I'm hoping the Garda will get to the bottom of it very soon.
"As many of you know, I have been somewhat estranged from my Dad for a number of years now".
'I've had little contact with him in the last three years and no contact or association whatsoever with Bray Boxing Club since 2015.
"I have been appalled by the misuse of my name and image during the reporting of this incident in the media coverage".
Finally, to Bobby's family: You didn't deserve this heartache, I'm so sorry for your loss.
