T.I.is adamant that the guard was the aggressor and "antagonized" him. A security guard wouldn't let him in the community, and at some point T.I. called a friend.
The rapper, born Clifford Harris Jr., was cuffed by police in Henry County, Georgia, around 4 a.m., WSB-TV Atlanta reported. "The guard was sound asleep when Tip arrived at the guardhouse". T.I. asked the guard, police told WSB.
According to the AJC, the Atlanta artist was arrested outside his home's gated community by the Henry County Police Department on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
"The guard continued to refuse entry without justification", Sadow said in a statement, referring to T.I.as Tip. Tip clearly identified himself and sought entry.
According to officials, the unidentified friend had an outstanding warrant and was placed under arrest. He says it was a "very heated debate", but nothing ever became physical. He says he demanded the guard's name, but the guy refused. Tip was in contact with Tiny' by phone and "Tiny" confirmed that Tip should be let in immediately.
"To see young people involved with something so important right now - that gives a sense of hope", T.I. said. I think that is what the future of America is longing for: "Young people who actually care about things that matter". Words were exchanged and apparently the guard and/or a supervisor called the police.
T.I. has since spoken out on his arrest, telling The Blast that he believes the charges were racially motivated as local law enforcement are "white cops in a very white area".
T.I.'s wife, R&B singer and songwriter Tameka "Tiny" Harris owns a home in the Eagles's Landing Country Club community that she bought in 2014. "When the police arrived, they were not interested in hearing Tip's side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip".
