Showtime has announced that Boston crime drama City on a Hill has been ordered to series, with season one set to consist of 12 episodes.
In the early 1990s, Boston was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm - and then it all changed in what was called the "Boston Miracle".
"'City on a Hill' has the veneer of a classic Boston cops-and-robbers drama, but actually dives headfirst into challenging the very institutions it depicts", David Nevins, CEO of Showtime Networks, said in a statement. In this fictional account, an assistant district attorney (Aldis Hodge) forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt, yet highly respected Federal Bureau of Investigation veteran (Kevin Bacon) to take down a family of armored vehicle robbers, and in doing so, subvert the city's entire criminal justice system. Michael Cuesta ("American Assassin") serves as executive producer and directed the pilot. Together, they take on a family of armored vehicle robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston. MacLean wrote the pilot and will serve as an executive producer. The series, executive produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Jennifer Todd, will premiere in 2019.
Bacon will serve as co-exec producer as well as playing the role of Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Jackie Rohr.
