Russell Brand has said his mum is making a "remarkable recovery" after sustaining serious injuries in a vehicle accident. Speaking about her recovery on Loose Women, the comedian said: "She'll be watching now!"
He said: "She had a awful, bad vehicle crash".
She had bad, awful injuries. Head-on collision. She had bad, awful injuries. Broken back, broken neck, awful abdominal injuries. but she's making a remarkable recovery due to her spirit and the incredible National Health Service, and the people that work there do such phenomenal work.
At the time of the accident, Barbara had just finished chemotherapy, after having cancer for a sixth time. "She bounces right back - the woman wants to live - she's full of spirit". He added that he was trying to remain focused on getting his mother better instead of letting the horrific incident affect him, explaining: "If something dramatic and terrible happens in your life you can start to overly identify with it, you can make it your life as it were".
Last month, Russell announced he was taking a hiatus from social media and cancelling the remainder of his United Kingdom tour, after his mother was left after his mum sustained "numerous life-threatening injuries" in a head-on collision. "I think of it as the soul of this country, where people are benevolent and kind and do something valuable for a living". If you've got tickets, they'll be refunded or possibly rescheduled but I can't really imagine that and I certainly can't imagine performing at the moment, because I feel too sad and connected to this.
He continued: "Thank you for all your positive, handsome messages, prayers for those of you for whom that is meaningful and appropriate".
Russell previously took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the NHS in a video he posted last month, when his mum was first taken to hospital, saying: "To see the way the medical professionals operate is a phenomenal thing".
