Police in NY requested the public's help to find a 14-month-old child whose mother's body was found in a bag in some woods. It was unclear what clothing the child was last seen wearing.
During a news conference Friday evening, Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts said more than 145 people, including numerous volunteers from local fire and ambulance companies, combed through the orchards on Joy Road looking for any sign of the boy, who has been missing since May 16.
The Amber Alert said the child was taken under circumstances that make them worry about his health.
Hidalgo-Calderon had been in the USA since November 2016, according to the Workers' Center.
Police arrested her boyfriend, Alberto Ebavardo Gutierrez Reyes, on charges of tampering with physical evidence but have not found the boy. He refused to speak about baby Owen's whereabouts.
Owen, who typically attends day care when his mother works, did not attend on May 17 or 18.
Hidalgo-Calderon was in the middle of being deported at the time of her death, and her family was applying for asylum. She was scheduled to appear in court on June 5. "She was my first born and I feel like a piece of my heart is gone". "If you are a perpetrator and you have abused somebody, we are going to hunt you down".
Sheriff's Deputies say 165 searchers from Wayne County fire departments, NYS Forest Rangers, and multiple other agencies combed the Joy Road Farm Saturday.
