Barca broke the record for the longest unbeaten streak in La Liga on Saturday when they beat Valencia to make it 39 league games without defeat.

Barcelona will be aiming to continue rewriting the history books when they lock horns with Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Tuesday night.

With Barca facing Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final at the weekend, Valverde has acknowledged that Messi could be given the night off for the trip to Balaidos.

"Resting Messi is a possibility like any other, but I think he is playing well, the other day he played a good game", Valverde said during a press conference on Monday.

"We are in an important week and we are coming off the back of a game three days ago, and we have the cup final".

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has revealed that he is considering resting Lionel Messi for the La Liga clash at Celta Vigo.

"They are having a great season and are fighting for a European place".

Valverde, however, insists he will not take anything for granted against Celta, who are ninth in the table and still in contention for a Europa League spot.

Barca can wrap up the title before May's El Clasico if Atletico Madrid drop points in their next two games, meaning a win over Celta Vigo will be at the forefront of their minds.

As such, Celta head coach Juan Carlos Unzue wants all three points against the Catalan giants in midweek. We have to go out and win, to stand up.
