Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif and maverick party leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan held a meeting here to discuss political matters, ARY News reported. He told people of southern Punjab that he wanted to see them, but he could not due to poor weather conditions.
Nisar had also in the past publicly expressed reservations with senior PML-N leadership. "Our opponents have set records of lies and we have made new records of development projects", he said.
Moreover, according to sources, the two party leaders discussed in the two-hour-long meeting the recent defection of PML-N lawmakers from south Punjab. However, the mandate will decide if the people are going to hand over this responsibility to PMLN in 2018 general elections, he said.
He made it clear that no leniency of any kind in terms of security arrangements would be tolerated adding that the agencies concerned should perform their duties diligently.
Shehbaz said the government had given priority to public welfare, but its political opponents wasted their time in name calling. Those who ignored the people in their provinces will be hiding their faces in the general elections. He said that due to the merciless plunder of national resources by corrupt rulers of the past, the country has plunged to the abyss of poverty, unemployment and ignorance. "We believe that merit is the only ladder to development and success and the government has taken practical steps for collective wellbeing and prosperity of people", he said.
The Chief Minister said that if an opportunity is given again in the next general elections, the journey of development that has started from Punjab will be extended to across the country and midnight oil will be burnt to make Pakistan a realm of Quaid and Iqbal's vision.
