The attack on Syria was ordered by US President Donald Trump "on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities". The Russian Defense Ministry noted that the Syrian Armed Forces had used Soviet air defense systems S-125, S-200, Buk, and Kvadrat to repel the missile attacks.
Russia's ambassador to the United States on Friday warned that there would be consequences for the US-led military strikes on Syria, adding that it was not acceptable to insult Russia's president.
Russia's demand for condemnation and an immediate halt to "aggression" and "any further use of force" by the US, Britain and France got support from only two other countries on the 15-member council - China and Bolivia.
The action followed a week of threats of retaliation for a suspected chemical weapons attack on civilians in Douma, outside Damascus, where Syrian forces have always been battling rebels.
