Waiguru told Rift Valley residents not to have any fears or doubts about the Kikuyu support.
The race was officially flagged of by Deputy President William Ruto in Uasin Gishu County.
Addressing the public in Eldoret during the inaugural Eldoret City Marathon, Waiguru assured the DP that central Kenya was solidly behind him in the race to succeed Kenyatta.
According to deputy president William Ruto, this will help youths earn a living and live comfortable lives through using their talent.
Ms Waiguru said contrary to media reports, voters from the region would support the DP's quest.
She said that she chose to break and increase her pace and when she saw there was no reaction from the other competitors.
Those present also included Governors Stephen Sang of Nandi, Josphat Nanok of Turkana, Stanley Kiptis of Baringo and Alex Tolgos of Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nyeri Woman Representative Rehab Mukami.
Cherop, the 2012 Boston marathon victor, faced little challenge from top-notch runners like Lydia Cheromei and Jane Seurei, Cherop won in 2:29.57 despite falling at 30km. It sought to create awareness of environmental conversations.

Waiguru praised the organisers and welcomed athletes to the upcoming Mwea Marathon.
"As a country, we have a responsibility to ensure we conserve our environment for future generations".
