While President Donald Trump and other conservatives continue to try and discredit former FBI Director James Comey after his bombshell interview with ABC over the weekend, an old tweet from Kellyanne Conway shows that there might be some hypocrisy in their criticism.
Conway, during an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America", appeared to suggest Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe handed her boss the presidency.
Second, um, what? Conway said, "This guy swung an election".
"At the end of your interview, George, he gave a free political commercial, telling people to go out there and vote against the president and his interests", Conway said.
Folks on the Internet took notice of Conway's media gaffes of the day and had plenty to say. Conway is referring to Comey's admission that he thought Hillary Clinton would win easily, which is one of the reasons he wasn't anxious about reopening the email investigation ten days before the election. As of early Monday morning, the president had not commented directly since the interview aired.
Comey is carrying out a publicity campaign for his book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership", set for release Tuesday.
Trump, meanwhile, tweeted a slew of insults at Comey, whom he fired in May.
"She hurt herself; she was never at 50 percent", she said. So Conway is saying that Comey swung the election to Trump because he thought the "wrong person"-Hillary Clinton-would win". Trump recently called Comey's actions "one of the worst "botch jobs" of history".
But the president also said in an interview last May that he fired Comey at least in part because of the FBI investigation Comey was then leading into Russian interference in the election and potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
