McCabe's attorney has asserted publicly that emails show "that Mr. McCabe advised Director Comey that he was working with colleagues at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to correct inaccuracies before the stories were published, and that they remained in contact through the weekend while the interactions with the reporter continued".
While it seems like Trump can do or say whatever he wants and get away with it, there's one potential action Comey hopes will sound the legal alarm: if Trump were to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
Comey however dismissed claims that Trump was medically unfit to hold office.
"I mean, it's certainly some evidence of obstruction of justice".
Comey, who ran the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly four years, portrays the president in the book as a liar, dumb and rude, and he compares elements of Trump's behaviour to that of a Mafia boss. Both times he said that. He has some of the same concerns about his moral character as I have and, indeed, as many of Trump's own voters had when they pulled the lever for him. Trump has called out Comey for this incident before, like after McCabe released a statement last month, claiming that Comey knew that McCabe had authorized an agent to speak anonymously to a reporter in 2016. But during an interview on Good Morning America, she contradicted Trump's official line by admitting that Comey swung the 2016 election in Donald Trump's favor when he announced the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails a few days before the vote.
He also suggested Comey should be imprisoned, saying, "how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail)".
Comey was sacked by the President a year ago in the midst of the FBI's investigation into whether Trump's campaign associates colluded with Russian Federation to influence the 2016 election.
In his book, according to leaked excerpts, Comey wrote he might have subconsciously viewed her as the next president. I still think that guy is an idiot, but, you know, he's kind of an honest idiot. "Slimeball!" That argument was startling given that Comey's handling of the email investigation, including his disclosure shortly before the election that the FBI had reopened its probe, enraged Democrats.
Trump fired Comey in May 2017, setting off a scramble at the Justice Department that led to the appointment of Mueller as special counsel overseeing the Russian Federation investigation. Trump had denied asking Comey to stop investigating Flynn.
"I'm about to meet a person who doesn't know me, who's just been elected president of the United States..."
"I started to tell him about the allegation was that he had been involved with prostitutes in a hotel in Moscow in 2013", Comey says in the clip.
"People in this country need to stand up and go to the voting booth and vote their values", he said.
