Local prices are 17 cents higher than a year ago.
That's a 14% jump, up from $2.41 a gallon previous year.
A new report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) says the average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas will hit $2.74 a gallon this summer. "However, higher oil prices have also enticed US producers to ramp up crude oil exports, effectively draining USA oil inventories at a higher pace than that oil is being replaced", he said.

Four-dollars-a-gallon gasoline, not seen in the Golden State since midsummer 2014, is starting to look likely due to developments that pushed at-the-pump prices into overdrive last week. 49 of the nation's 50 states saw average prices higher versus last week, with the lone exception DE, which fell 0.7 cents.
"In the past few years we've had such an abundance of crude oil that global problems really didn't phase the oil market", Jenkins said.

Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for gas price comparison site GasBuddy.com, said that's the highest national average price since July 2015.
Gas prices continue to rise as prices went up 6 cents per gallon last week on Long Island, averaging $2.80 per gallon according to Gas Buddy, which tracks gas prices nationwide. Growing crude exports, alongside OPEC-led production cuts, have helped stocks decrease over the past year, but the year-over-year decline in stocks has contributed to higher crude prices.
DeHaan said refinery maintenance has gone well so far, gasoline supply has continued to increase and the transition to summer gasoline supplies is nearly finished. "With the transition to summer gasoline also wrapping up, the reasons for gas prices to rise will shrink".
According to GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices, motorists weren't seeing much of a difference in prices at Manatee ($2.56 average) and Sarasota ($2.57) outlets.
