Following the failed Tim Burton-directed movie from the 1990s, fans never expected they would get to see Nicolas Cage suit up as the Man of Steel. While the film primarily focuses on the young members of the Teen Titans - Robin, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven and Starfire - some adult heroes will pop up as well. To the Movies, a big-screen adaptation of Cartoon Network's popular animated Teen Titans Go! series.
Teen Titans GO! To the Movies plans to break the fourth wall like the LEGO and Muppet movies before them, taking heroes on a trip to Hollywood inside an actual Hollywood movie - and now, when the film premieres on July 27, it'll be led by the internet's most beloved A-lister. So, yes, Cage will play Superman, but it will only be his voice and will likely be just a cameo.
USA Today reports Cage has joined the cast, along with singer/songwriter Halsey, who will be voicing Wonder Woman, and rapper Lil Yachty will voice Green Lantern.
A Superman super-fan - he even named his son Kal-El - Cage was set to star in one of Hollywood's great what-could-have-beens, as Warner Bros. infamously pulled the plug on Superman Lives as it neared production.
Warners Bros. describes the movie as "a fresh, gleefully clever, kid-appropriately crass and tongue-in-cheek play on the superhero genre, complete with musical numbers". Outside of Superman Lives, Cage hasn't had much luck with comic book films in general. The Go! franchise follows Robin (Scott Menville), Starfire (Hynden Watch), Raven (Tara Strong), Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) and Cyborg (The Walking Dead's Khary Payton) as they kill time between battling bad guys.
"It seems to the Teens that all the major superheroes out there are starring in their own movies-everyone but the Teen Titans, that is. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line".
