Testing on the segment (Majlis Park-South Campus), part of the Phase-III project of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, was also successfully completed recently.
The Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro corridor has been scheduled to be inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday, March 14, at 4 PM from the Metro Bhawan Station.
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), which inspected the stretch from February 26-28, has given the clearance to the project.
"The line is expected to be opened in stages by June this year, except the stretch between Trilokpuri and Mayur Vihar Phase-I due to land acquisition issues at Trilokpuri", added the official. According to the news reports, the Pink Line stretch will have Azadpur Station (Yellow Line), Netaji Subhash Place (Red Line) and Rajouri Garden (Blue Line) as the three interchange stations. Especially for the North Campus students who have to go to their college either by road from the North Campus or by the Airport metro line till Dhaula Kuan and again commute on road will definitely feel relax after this new metro line.
With the inauguration of the stretch, travel between North Campus and the South Campus will take barely 40 minutes. All the stations have platform-screen doors.
With eight of 12 stations at an elevated level, Pink Line will be to public from 6 p.m. on Wednesday. This is the second big corridor for the DMRC after the Magenta line.
"This line will be Delhi Metro's second corridor to be operated using Communication-Based Train Control [CBTC] signalling technology, which facilitates movement of trains with a frequency of 90 seconds to 100 seconds". "For the first time travelators have been installed at the foot over bridges to facilitate interchange at Rajouri Garden and South Campus stations", the official said.
"The metro train on this stretch will also cross Dhaula Kuan at a height of 23.6 m (as high as a seven-storey building) to reach South Campus from Majlis Park", the DMRC said. The 12 stations on this line are: Majlis Park, Shalimar Bagh, Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place, Punjabi Bagh West, Shakurpur, ESI Hospital, Rajouri Garden, Naraina Vihar, Mayapuri, Delhi Cantt and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus.
Starting previous year, trial runs on its other stretches have also been conducted.
