The plea will be voiced before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra for urgent hearing. After the initial FIR, a string of complaints was filed by several states against the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from Oru Adaar Love, which prompted the makers and the actress to move the Supreme Court. A few days ago, a police complaint was filed against her for hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community.
The so-called nation's latest crush Priya Varrier has been breaking all records in making hearts win her cuteness and of course the undeniably attractive wink. Priya shot to fame following her "wink song" from the film "Oru Addar Love".
"The song describes and praises the love between the Prophet Mohammed and his first wife Khadeeja and this has been misunderstood by the complainants", NDTV quoted her petition.
On Monday, Varrier's counsel Pallavi Pratap told the apex court that the criminal complaints instituted by "various fringe groups" are based on a "distorted and incorrect interpretation of the song".
Of course, a set of people thought that it was the director of Kidu, who must have plagiarized the song from Oru Adaar Love. On February 14, an FIR was registered against them in Telangana.
The song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from the film ruffled feathers, with a case filed against it in Hyderabad for allegedly hurting Islamic sentiments.
"It is submitted that a song, which. has been cherished by more than one crore Muslim population of Kerala, can not suddenly offend the religious sentiments of the Muslim community", it had said. It said a song that had been "cherished by more than 1 crore Muslims" in Kerala can not "suddenly offend" their sentiments.
In their petition, Priya and her director invoked artists' fundamental right to speech and expression and sought quashing of the FIRs.
