Semen Elistratov took the bronze competing under the banner of the Olympics Athletes from Russian Federation, meaning there was no medal for defending champion Charles Hamelin, who incurred a penalty.
Bergsma, whose maiden name was Richardson when she grew up in High Point, finished eighth in the 1,500 women's speedskating contest.
"Viktor told me that I could do this, I've had lots of advice from him", said Lim. This is her third Winter Olympics competition.
Lim crossed the finish line in an Olympic record time of 2:10.485, in the men's 1,500m finals at Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, the sub-host city of the PyeongChang Olympics, which started on the previous day for a 17-day run. Her team mate Kim Boutin also cruised to the 500m quarter-finals by winning her heat with 43.634 seconds. American teammate Mia Manganello finished 22nd with a time of 1:59.93.
Lim beat out eight rivals in the crowded final, which had three extra skaters after some were advanced because of penalties in the semifinals.
Lim boosted up to return to his top position with two laps to go and stayed in the spot until the finish line.
Wust was the first of the favorites to race and her time stood up. The other South Korean, Seo Yira, was relegated to the B final.
Lim wasn't even the strongest South Korean skater in the final. "When I heard the news about Viktor Ahn, it was regretful".
Elistratov is on a much diminished Russian short-track team, after several skaters were refused invitations by the International Olympic Committee, which said it couldn't be confident they weren't involved in doping. He won the men's 1,500-m event in Gangneung, Gangwon Province on Saturday. He was cleared of a doping offence in 2016 after he tested positive for the banned substance meldonium.
Later this week, Bergsma will go for gold in the 500 meter, 1000 meter and mass start races, and will try to qualify for the women's team pursuit.
