IL (12-14, 2-11) played decent in the first half, but a lapse at the end of the half allowed the Nittany Lions to overtake the Illini and grab the lead for good at 37-36.
Penn State students who attend Thursday's game are invited to enjoy a free pregame chicken sandwich buffet as well as pretzels and popcorn, while supplies last, in the southeast corner of the arena at event level.
The Wolfpack and Spartans are members of the Mountain West Conference.

Penn State has some non-conference games scheduled through the 2025 season, including home-and-homes with West Virginia and Auburn. San Jose State has played at Minnesota (four times between 1991-2014), at Ohio State (2002) and faced Wisconsin twice, including once in San Jose in 1997.
There is still a non-conference opening on the schedule in 2021. The Falcons will play at Ohio State and at IL in 2020, and will play at Minnesota in both 2021 and 2025.
Two non-conference teams will travel to Happy Valley in 2020, while the Nittany Lions will go on the road to face a tough ACC opponent.
More than 3,700 new season tickets have already been sold for the 2018 campaign.
