The Jets had a pair of goals disallowed, including a blast from Tyler Myers just:24 into the game, and a Mark Schiefele deflection that would have tied the game at 2-2 with just 1:22 remaining.
Mats Zuccarello also scored for NY in the opener of a four-game trip. Former Manitoba Moose Michael Grabner scored into an empty net with:43 to play as the Jets home record fell to 20-5-2.
Mats Zuccarello ended a 21-game goal-scoring drought in the first period with his ninth of the season for the Rangers.
NY veteran goalie Henrik Lundquist was outstanding in making 37 saves while Hellebuyck finished with 25.
As he has been all season long, Lundqvist was sharp with a 37 save effort.
"Of course he's a great goalie", said Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers, who scored his team's lone goal. "It's something I have to take on me but, we let them get back into the game in the second period and they kinda took over a little bit".
Ehlers scored his 21st goal of the season for the Jets, who are 3-2-1 in their 10-game homestand.
Winnipeg had a Tyler Myers' goal 24 seconds into the first period disallowed because of a NY challenge for offside. But 42 seconds later Ehlers ripped a one-timer past Lundqvist's glove side to make it 1-0.
With 1:06 left in the period, Ehlers' pass attempt was intercepted by Zuccarello and he broke in alone on Hellebuyck. The puck hit Hellebuyck, dropped to the ice and trickled in under the goalie's pads.
"It was a stupid pass from me, trying to make it into the middle there", said Ehlers after the game. Both goaltenders made some big saves, including Hellebuyck diving to stop a Rick Nash shot and Lundqvist turning away a close-in try for Myers.
"This was a real good team win, like last game", Zuccarello said. The Rangers also got a power play and Zuccarello had a shot stopped and hit the post. "[Lundqvist] was real good for us".
NOTES: Both teams finished 0 for 4 with the man advantage.
