Although details of the party chairman's meeting with the President on Friday were sketchy as of the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the President prevailed on the National Chairman to cooperate with the former Lagos State governor.
"And if you look at it critically, the governors themselves who naturally have immunity, we are very careful because you know that Mr. President is incorruptible, if you do, you are going to face the consequences". In this, you have my fullest support.
Based on the above allegation leveled against him, Oyegun replied therefore, "I thank you for your letter dated February 21, 2018, for your prayers and good wishes for my health".
President Muhammadu Buhari in February appointed Tinubu to lead a committee tasked with reconciling aggrieved members of the party ahead of the 2019 election. He accused the APC National Chairman of positioning himself in active opposition to the goal of resuscitating the progressive and democratic nature of the APC.
He said, "We discussed so many issues that affects the nations, our party and Me".
Tinubu had told Oyegun in the letter: "Disappointment greeted me when I discovered that you had swiftly acted in contravention of the spirit of our discussions". Given your assessment, these are states where I believe cooperation between you and I should have been intense and detailed. Oyegun declined commenting on the outcome of the meeting. Repeated calls to his mobile telephone number were neither picked nor returned.
"After its executive session which held on Wednesday, the NWC of the APC has decided that the unfolding situation in Kaduna State is deeply regrettable and request all parties in the disagreement to maintain utmost decorum and give an opportunity for true reconciliation".
President Buhari, as well as the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, Mr Tinubu, were copied in the letter. "Other members of the Committee are the National Auditor, Chief George Moghalu, and the National Woman Leader, Hajiya Rahmatu Alliyu".
The APC Governors' Forum had also commended the appointment, saying it was a welcome development that would help to strengthen the party.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has said that state governors elected on the platform of the ruling APC and majority of the party members have confidence in Odigie-Oyegun.
