JASON King star Peter Wyngarde has died at the age of 90, his agent has confirmed. Wyngarde played the suave handlebar moustachioed Jason King, an author of adventure novels and a key member of the Interpol department who always seemed to get the girl.
His agent and manager Thomas Bowington said: "He was one of the most unique, original and creative actors that I have ever seen".
Following the success of Department S, Wyngarde's character was given his own spin-off show, simply titled Jason King, that ran for 26 episodes in the United Kingdom, and was syndicated around the world.
"He died at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (in London), and even then he was saying that you shouldn't button the upper button on a shirt". "I sometimes nicknamed him "the King" because he simply knew everything". The show was canceled in 1972, but Wyngarde continued to appear on stage and screen in Britain and internationally.
Wyngarde is most fondly remembered for Department S, a spy series which ran for two seasons in the United Kingdom from 1969. "As Jason King, he made a few statements about style in the 60s/70s". "He menaced Emma Peel as Leader of the Hellfire Club, was the ultimate 70s medallion man as Jason King and managed to match Max Von Sydow for menacing camp as Klytus in Flash Gordon".
Fans has flocked to social media to pay tribute and share their memeories of the actor.
