Chapter One is getting an open beta for all PC users, Frontier Developments has revealed.
Launching Q1 2018, Elite Dangerous: Beyond - Chapter One is the first update of Elite Dangerous' third season, following the Thargoids devastating assault on humanity's starports.
Last year, players of Elite Dangerous began noticing some odd encounters.
Within, Wing Missions add team-based challenges wherein players can share rewards with allies around the world. Commanders will share their adventures - and rewards - with allies while working together to overcome unsafe obstacles.
We're also promised a smoother trading experience for gamers, with Frontier stating that info on the 'galactic economy is now more freely available, allowing every commander to become a master merchant as they journey among the stars'. Moreover, "reworked planet rendering" tech will make everything look prettier. In Beyond - Chapter One vibrant surface colors better reflect planetary geological properties, enriching the full-scale Milky Way.
As Frontier explains it, Chapter One features "a range of game-improving updates, including changes to the engineering mechanics, an overhaul of mission rewards, and an altered crime and punishment system". Elite Dangerous Horizons players will get access to a new Alliance warship, the Chieftain, and Frontier will finally roll out the highly-anticipated GalNet Audio feature that should breathe some life into the in-game news feed.
Things are always changing in the universe and the core game mechanics of Elite: Dangerous are no exception. Chapter One's open beta kicks on January 25, and will be playable through the in-game launcher. Some of the new content will be open to everyone, though a press release published Friday morning suggests some of the new ED content will also be exclusive to Elite Dangerous Horizons owners. This has all been building up to Elite Dangerous: Beyond, a multi-chapter series of updates that will explore humanity's next steps in the face of the Thargoid threat. Other Frontier titles include RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Thrillville, LostWinds, Kinectimals, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Zoo Tycoon, Tales from Deep Space and ScreamRide.
