A year ago, Disney, Marvel and Square Enix announced a multi-game partnership that involved developer Crystal Dynamics creating a game based on the Avengers.
As you might know already, EA sadly shut down Visceral Games past year leaving employees needing to find new positions. Crystal Dynamics co-head Ron Rosenberg confirmed that fifteen "world-renowned industry veterans" with expertise ranging from production to art or even engineering have been added to the studio's team.
The Avengers project was revealed past year as an agreement between Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix to produce original games based on The Avengers. Mr Escayg will now serve as a creative director for the upcoming Marvel's The Avengers video game.
"Crystal's been around nearly as long as I've been in the business".
Towards the beginning of January, Naughty Dog's Shaun Escayg, the Creative Director and writer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, left Naughty Dog for Crystal Dynamics to work on The Avengers project. "The immediate chemistry and camaraderie has been exactly what I'd hoped for", Barry said of his move.
"We're committed to delivering an incredible, completely original Avengers experience to our gamers, and that means we are always looking to add unbelievable developers to our existing best in class studio talent".
Other new hires hail from studios ranging from Call Of Duty: WWII maker Slegehammer Games to Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War developer Monolith Productions, Batman: Arkham Origins maker WB Games Montréal, and Star Wars: Battlefront creator DICE. However, that doesn't mean we don't have an idea of what to expect. Based on their experience, a character-driven and cinematic third-person adventure is likely at the top of the list, though the comments above also suggest an online, living game similar to Destiny too.
The only one they announced was something called The Avengers Project, and the only thing they said about it is that it's a collaboration between Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics and Deus Ex maker Eidos Montreal.
