A campaign ad for Gov. Bruce Rauner featuring embattled Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens will no longer be airing in IL, a spokesperson for Rauner said Thursday. Privately, several expressed concern about the governor's admitted affair - and the more salacious behavior that he denies - but said they would wait to see what happens in the coming days before making judgment. She is among the bipartisan group of senators asking for the attorney general to investigate.
"A few years ago, before Eric was elected governor, there was a time when he was unfaithful in our marriage", the statement read.
The governor and his wife released a statement late Wednesday after St. Louis television station KMOV reported that he had a sexual relationship with his former hairdresser in 2015. Greitens has denied any blackmail threat, reports said.
The affair was "a deeply personal mistake", the statement said.
In the recording, the woman also told her husband that Greitens had taken a picture of her while naked and threatened to publicize it if she ever told anyone of their affair. His campaign capitalized on his military service as a Navy SEAL and his work as founder of a veterans' charity, casting himself as an outsider going up against a career politician, the state's Democratic attorney general. According to that woman's ex-husband and a recording, Greitens allegedly tied the woman up in his basement, and took nude photos of her to use as blackmail and threaten her into silence. After further investigation, I have chose to launch a formal investigation into the alleged actions of Governor Greitens. She says on the tape that he invited her downstairs at his home because he wanted to show her "how to do a proper pull-up".
"Eric is family to the RJC and as such our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this hard time", Matt Brooks, executive director of the organization, said.
She said she later realized he took a photo of her. Schatz said he explained to the governor: "Before I render judgment, I want to see all the facts".
The woman did not immediately return a call left by The Associated Press at the salon where she worked.
The morning after news broke of Gov. Eric Greitens' affair and alleged blackmail, KMOX is finding a reason why this story was under wraps for almost three years.
Greitens and his wife Sheena released a statement Wednesday night. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, who posted a comment on Twitter Thursday calling for Greitens to resign. Lawmakers were not scheduled to return until Tuesday. She didn't address Democratic Party calls for her to return the contributions that Greitens helped her raise. It was sent to the same account that Greitens listed on a website he used in the campaign. The woman involved in the affair has not been named. "We could either stick our head in the sand in the legislature or we can move forward".
Ex-Husband: For the first time?
Senator Doug Libla (R) - District 25 said he has asked the Attorney General's office to investigate the allegations. He also says it puts Missouri in a bad light nationally. The station declined to provide the tape or transcript in advance of running their story, which contained multiple false allegations.
