The director of photography for the movie 'Mudbound, ' Rachel Morrison made history by becoming the first woman to be nominated by the Academy for best cinematography - a category which was dominated by men for 89 years, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"This is literally a dream come true", she told ABC News.

Two of the nine movies nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture got their first public screenings this time past year at the Sundance Film Festival.

"Morrison's film "Mudbound" - which was directed by Dee Rees" - is up for four Oscars overall. Others include Warren Beatty for his work on 1978's "Heaven Can Wait" and James L. Brooks for 1983's "Terms of Endearment".
Having said that, it felt like it could have been more. "I feel an extra piece of pride that we're talking about a film of this genre - my favorite genre, horror/thriller which is not usually regarded in this way".

With this year's nominations, alumni have throughout history received a total of 151 Academy Award nominations, with 30 wins. And Jordan Peele's racially charged horror thriller "Get Out", which also snagged four nominations, was shown at Sundance in a "secret" sneak preview. At 22, he is the third-youngest person to ever be nominated. While "Call Me By Your Name" had Oscar buzz surrounding it nearly from the moment it first screened at Sundance last year, there was some speculation about the film snagging an Oscar nom due to "Moonlight", a film dealing with similar themes of sexuality and coming-of-age, having received its big win last year.
The Academy Awards will air on Sunday, March 4 on ABC.
